Trimester 3: Assignments
Section 1: Library Duties
- Daily activities include such things as: making deliveries, rearranging library furniture, straightening or organizing, putting textbooks away, helping teachers or other students, etc.
- Shelving - everyone will be assigned at least one section of the library that he/she is responsible for. When you come to the library, immediately check in with Mrs. Coble or Ms. Jorja to see if they have something that needs to be done immediately, then shelve the books in your section. Read your section - make sure that all books are in the correct order and that everything is neat, clean, and organized.
Section 2: Voki
- Create a Voki at www.voki.com/. You may create your own account or you may use the school account. The username is: dsmsstudent@gmail.com and the password is: student.
- You will record a message with your favorite book. You might say something like, "I really enjoyed reading __________ by _________ because _________________." or "My favorite book is _______________ by _______________ because __________________." or "A great book to read is ___________ by _____________ because _____________."
- Embed your Voki on the Wiki.
Section 3: Book Review
- Select a book from this library to read. You will write a book review on this book.
- Go to Destiny. Click on "Destiny Quest" and login with your school computer username and password. You may change the background. Explore Destiny Quest.
- After you finish reading your book, write a book review and post it on Destiny Quest.
Section 4: Poetry Podcast
- April is National Poetry month. Read some poetry.
- Write an original poem. You may write whatever type of poem you want (we have several books that can help you). On the Homepage of Destiny are 2 sites under Poetry and Other Projects that you can go to which have poetry templates. As soon as you create a poem that you like, print it out.
-
Using your cell phone or mine, make a podcast of your poem on Gcast.
Section 5: Synonyms
- We are focusing on synonyms for our short-term assessment. You will take a pre-test. Then check out the Synonym page on the wiki and complete the activites. After you complete the activites, you will take the post-test. The Wordle is the creative component of our study on synonyms.
Section 6: Wordle
- A wordle is a word cloud. According to the website, "Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends."
- Select a word that you find interesting. Using a thesaurus, make a list of synonyms for that word.
- Go to http://www.wordle.net/ and create a "word cloud" for your word and its synonyms. When you are finished, we will embed your wordle on the wiki.
Section 7: Discussion
- There are 2 discussion questions for Trimester 3. They are Discussion Question 5 and Discussion Question 6. You must have at least 2 entries for each question. This is a school project so you must capitalize the first word in every sentence and all proper nouns, including your name. You must spell all words correctly. There is no spell check on the wiki so you may want to write your response in Word then copy and paste it onto the wiki.
